Owls run over the Jaguars
The day started off so perfect. The Today Show kicked off the morning with a featurette about the Mill Jaguars football team for their Friday Morning Lights series, introducing the Jaguars to a national audience. Mill Valley hoped that that night's game would have a fairy tale ending. It ended up being more like a Grimm’s tale.
Olathe West came into Jaguar Stadium coming off their signature victory of the season with a strong victory over defending 6A champion Gardner-Edgerton. A victory over Mill Valley would announce them as serious contenders for a state championship.
The Owls received the ball first and proceeded to march the ball down the field and punching the ball into the endzone for a touchdown.
Mill Valley would respond on their first possession, using a strong running game to drive the length of the field. Reggie Recce tied it up with a two yard plunge.
The Owls would continue to find success on their next drive resulting in another touchdown. Mill Valley couldn’t find any momentum and found themselves down 17-7 at the half.
The Owls added to their lead on their second possession of the second half going up 24-7. De’Vonte Lee gave the Jaguars some momentum with a big kickoff return that set up a Max Piva touchdown run to put the score at 24-14.
Mill Valley wouldn’t get any closer.
The Owls offense continued to work over the Jaguars defense while the Jaguars offense struggled to find any sort of rhythm.
At the end of the night the Owls claimed a 52-36 victory.
Mill Valley will look to get back on the winning track next Friday as they go on the road to face Olathe Northwest.
